WINERY - IMAGEMOVIE
SINCE MDCCXLIV
We are able to look back on a long history – first mentioned in 1744. Even without a Chateau or noble blood, we can be recognized by our quality, inventiveness, innovations, honest work, fast service and fair prices. Because of this we have conquered the hearts of a colorful crowd of wine lovers from around the world in recent years.
QUALITY FANATICS
FROM RIESLING-CANYON
VOM RIESLING-CANYON
By consciously low yields and using ungrafted vines, we can always guarantee a high quality. The careful vinification, gentle grape processing, cool, slow, partly spontaneous fermentation and ripening result in individual Riesling wines, which reflect the uniqueness of the vintage and the vineyard.
CAREER CHANGER
Growing up with winegrowing and further training through my studies, I developed my passion for wine. With passion and enthusiasm you can ultimately find more than just the right path! - Kilian Schmitges

ERDENER TREPPCHEN
The Erdener Treppchen is one of the most famous steep slopes on the Mosel and impresses with its spectacular terraces made of red and grey slate. The south-facing location allows for optimal sunlight, while the stony soils store the heat and give the wines an unmistakable minerality. Rieslings of great elegance and complexity are produced here, characterized by fruity aromas, fine acidity and remarkable storability.
The facts:
- South- southwest located, 10-65% inclination, 90-220 m N.N.
- Mostly grafted vines but also a small section of ungrafted vines
- Gray slate
- Rich in finesse, complex wines, with good minerality and great elegance
- The specialty wines for this location are dry and fruity Spätlese and Auslese or Große Gewächse
ERDENER PRÄLAT
The Erdener Prälat site is one of the most exceptional and exclusive steep slopes on the Mosel - a real jewel of German winegrowing. With an impressive slope of 50 to 70% and vines that are sometimes over 100 years old, this site offers unique conditions for top-quality wines. The red slate soils, permeated with iron oxide, store heat optimally and give the wines an incomparable minerality and fullness. Thanks to the steep south-southwest orientation, the grapes benefit from maximum sunlight, which leads to exceptional ripeness and concentration.
The facts:
- South facing, 50-70% slope, 90-150 m N.N.
- Ungrafted vines between 50-100 years old
- Gray and red slate
- Extremely long maturation on the vine, mostly until November, complex, dense wines with a lot of minerality
- Limited quantities of Große Gewächse, Auslese and Beerenauslesen
LÖSNICHER FÖRSTERLAY
The Lösnicher Försterlay vineyard is characterized by its steep slate slopes facing south to southwest. The soil, characterized by fine gray slate, stores heat optimally and gives the wines a distinctive minerality. The microclimate of the site promotes slow, even ripening of the grapes, which produces particularly elegant, delicate wines with great finesse and storage capacity.
The facts:
- South to southwest orientation, 10-60% slope
- Gray Devonian slate
- slow ripening enables intense fruit aromas
- Elegant wines with delicate structure and expressive minerality
